The Ingoldsby Legends is a collection of myths, legends, ghost stories and poetry written based on oral traditions. The author Thomas Ingoldsby of Tappington Manor is actually a pen-name of an English clergyman named Richard Harris Barham. First printed in 1837, they were popular in Victorian and fin-de-siecle society. Arthur Rackham illustrated Ingoldsby Legends in 1898 and 1907.
