The Titan pantheon predates the Olympians and its goddess of the moon was Selene. Selene fell in love with the mortal Endymion's beauty as he slept. She begged Zeus to put him into an eternal sleep where he remained ageless and beautiful forever. Every night, she visited him where he slept. Selene and Endymion had fifty daughters.
